If you’re a small company with a limited marketing budget and you don’t mind getting a little creative, then guerilla marketing strategies are an excellent way to gain additional business. However, guerilla marketing isn’t limited to small companies either. Every sized company can benefit from creative guerilla marketing strategies.
The term “Guerilla Marketing” sounds intense and sometimes it is. However, don’t let the name intimidate you. Guerilla marketing just refers to a type of marketing that is highly unconventional and out of the ordinary.

No, we aren’t talking about you Mr. Gorilla….we’re talking about the other type of guerilla marketing.
We are literally marketed to 24/7…yes, you are even being marketed to while you sleep! How is that possible? Your mind remembers the marketing you experienced during the day and sometimes reminds you in your dreams. For example, do you remember watching a commercial for McDonalds and then woke up in the morning the day after craving a McMuffin? We have! If you haven’t, we are sure you have a similar experience with something like that. Your mind subconsciously sinks in marketing that you are exposed to all throughout the day.
Marketing is everywhere and it’s getting harder and harder to stand out from the competition. So how do you stand out? One way is to do something so unique and different that you stand out like a sore thumb. This is guerilla marketing.
Here is a list of just some guerilla marketing examples that you might want to try for your business and/or products:
- Hire someone to dress up and stand outside of your brick-and-mortar store with a sign encouraging those who pass by to stop in.
- Use sidewalk chalk to advertise outside of your brick-and-mortar.
- Host a free event and stream it live via social media.
- Do a free product giveaway in exchange for social media likes or email addresses.
- Hit up Reddit or Facebook groups in your niche and contribute to the conversations.
- Donate your time and feed the homeless in public while wearing your t-shirts with your company’s logo on them.
- Become a sponsor to public events.
- Pick a spot in your neighborhood to pick up trash on a given date with a group of people. Offer a reward for each bag that’s filled with trash. 1 bag of trash gets 1 free beer for example. Try to host this event with a local brewery who should be happy to donate a keg or two of beer in exchange for advertising and helping clean up their neighborhood.
- Partner with a local restaurant to allow you to give them free to-go bags with your "sponsored by" logo on them.
